Vintage Story Desert Life is a desert-themed survival playthough in version 1.19, with a large list of mods to speed up the process of building and chiseling. This series exists as a series of VODs, as well, but for people who prefer their videos in a more manageable length, the VODs will be cut into these shorter episodes and released throughout the week after each livestream, provided that there is enough desire for this format.

@23:32 Hi there Appa! glad to see you still sleeping away :)
Nice stream as always. I’ve heard you talking about a sailboat before, but have you considered crafting one of the vanilla rafts to get across large bodies of water?
Hello great videos, you seem to know allot about the game is there a way I can shorten the winter days on an existing game ? Thanks
Another great stream. I missed this one and the previous, but I really hope to make the next!
love the floating water over the plant plant materials trunk
Just a heads up at that last big ruin with the nightmare drifter, there is a bunch of copper and meteoric iron in the bottom mine area!
I realize your probably already moving to the desktop at this point, but if you're going to have to lower the resolution anyways is there a reason you can't just lower the resolution on your laptop? I'm sure that would help with the heat. I do kind of remember you saying why you couldn't when you originally got the new laptop, but maybe I'm just imagining things.
@37:45 It's funny, but every time you run to the West, that hill with partial ruin on either side reminds me of a sleeping animal with horns on the side of the head. I think of Appa from The Last Airbender.

Life with a toddler. Ah, miss those days. My youngest just turned 21. Years. They go by fast. My eldest is nearly 40.
Kur!!! So sorry I lost touch with you. I've been ill and had a back injury that caused me to have surgery.
Love your channel! I wish we all could play coop. This game is so freaking fun
It's a Trail Ruin from the other block game!
Jelly: Made with juice only Jam: Mashed fruit Preserves: Whole fruit or chunks of fruit Had to look it up cuz I was curious too. lol
Pineapples are i believe the only crop in game that has TWO harvestable maturity stages. I think it goes to 16 and is harvestable at 15 and 16 but 15 doesnt have a full yield chance like 16 does Or however many stages pineapples have, so its best to wait for the final stage. Oh holy crap! You got STUPID unlucky... a few of those Pineapples were between growth stage 11 and 15, when broken they have a 99% chance to yield a Pineapple but NO seeds... so the fact that you got seeds from all of those later stage pineapples means you hit the 1% chance not once, not twice, but 3 times IN A ROW!... depending on how you look at it thats either really really lucky or the worst possible luck ever(3 hits of 1% in a row, stupidly improbably) lol.
I'm looking at the pineapple JSON file, and I think you have it backwards there--there is NO chance for a pineapple at all until maturity (stage 16), at which point there is supposed to be a 100% chance (though I suspect that when growing on regular soil, this chance drops significantly). Stages 11-15 all have a 99% chance of dropping 1 seed; at 16 the average number of seeds is 1.2.
Aw you named it after me lol. Good luck transferring to PC mate.
Lol you mean Dave? I didn't name him; the Vintage Story community seems to have settled on Dave for a name! XD And thanks, I've been on-and-off testing my settings, so should be able to migrate to desktop here soon!
@@Kurazarrh Haha! No, I tounge-in-cheek meant the vod title, but I know it really wasn't anything to do with me, just that you used the word 'wobbly'. I dig how they reduced the incredibly malevolent looking giant ethereal demi-god of pure destruction to 'some guy called Dave'. Seems I have to wait until September to play this game when I get my new desktop, my current PC will run it but it wont be pretty and can't add mods, can't wait to get into it and Version 1.20 may be up by then. also I'll be well prepared having watched all your videos.
@@wobblyboost Oh haha dur, if I had used my eyes and brain in tandem, that would have been obvious! XD
May I ask if you’ll be returning to that “castle” type Ruin ? My guess when you get better gear? And speaking of ruins, that one with the brown coal and underwater bit, it’s actually not supposed to be underwater, the stairs leads to mine shafts and the ladder is kind of an escape way near the end of it I guess, there is several brown coal spots above ground parts and crates and a smoking chimney at the top, I got two of those ruins in my world so I guess I know my way round, 😂. loot might be worth it though, found a lot of building blocks. last time the mines had a whole stack worth of meteoric iron thought I believe that was just very lucky world gen lol
Yeah, once we have some iron+ armor, I think it'll be time for a revenge tour of all those ruins! :)
@@Kurazarrh awesome , can’t wait to see it :D
I know there is a certain thrill to be able to skin drifters during temporal storms but why not get the Instant Drifter Drop mod so you dont have to juggle your fingers around the keyboard/mouse every time you need to do that?
Maybe I like a little pain in my life... XD!
I dont know why you arent getting 6 resin per bucket, unless you have been through and emptied the buckets with in the past 6 in game days... Then again, ill be honest im now 100% sure on how Acacia yields Resin. All of my experience comes from Resin leaking Pine Trees so there actually might be a different yield rate between the two tree types. To check, make note of what day(in game) you went and collected resin this stream, then wait 8 in game days before going to check again. If the trees all have resin on the logs and dont have a full 6 resin from the bucket and 8 days have passed without collecting from the buckets then we can say that Acacia puts out slower than Pine.
Might be worth going back ONE more time... time passes kind of slowly in this world since I only play for 3 hours every weekend, plus a bit extra some weeks during chores streams. Since I just also harvested the resin from the trees themselves, I think I only gave them 4 days each time. We'll have to check back possibly in like mid-July and see if the trees have their resin back before we empty those buckets!
Honestly i dont think the hoeing of wild cropsnwoll get patched... i think the only real way Tyron could fix that is to make a whole new set of crops, a wild version of every crop that simply drops the regular version seeds for cultivation. Hopefully this trick will stay around for a long while.
From what I know about the game's design, I don't think making a separate set of "wild" crops is beyond reach. Maybe a few hours' worth of work, perhaps.
@Kurazarrh that's already how the flowers work anyways if you think about it
Finally caught up with everything! I'll try to catch the next stream this time.
Welcome to the present! Hope to see you this weekend, then! :)
I think you should make a gladiator pit to fight the storms in. Could be a really neat thing.
That could be pretty neat!
Dave's a cool dude, real chill entity
He just wants to watch the world burn!
I will find a mod you need, make it and implement a hidden feature where some traders steal your gears if you store them nearby and then laugh at you when you come back. But only the shifty traders.
So you're saying my clearly-labeled "Treasure & Curiosities" box isn't secure or far enough to be safe??? :P
@@Kurazarrh I swear the only reason they don't rob you blind is because they fear you. They must've seen you instantly resurrect, hold 800°C hot iron with nothing but wood tongs and carry a literal mountain of stone in your pants
ANIMORPHS MENTION IN THE STREAM 🎉 this is why I enjoy your videos; dad jokes, jump scares, and good taste in 90s books C:
:D 90s kids unite!!!
onion pies are still a real thing, they just make them differently now.
I've gotten a few comments over on Discord about this... sounds like a lot of different places have their own recipes, too!
actually, the metric might have started as the platinum meter in france, but currently it's based on the speed of light in vacuum. and imperial is now defined based on metric too
Aha... that's good to know. Better to have something that can be measured against the universe's own size and speed limit than a random stick of metal in a vault!
Its funny to hear you mention Rhad as a streamer. I have been a sub of his going on 4 years. Crazy how worlds colide sometimes lol
I think what's even crazier is when they DON'T collide... Like, UA-cam KNOWS I consume a lot of Vintage Story content, among other games and topics. Yet there are relatively popular creators with VS videos they are years old, yet they've never been recommended to me! @.@
Sorry to have missed the stream, watching soon after. Hope all the Kuras and everyone else has a good week.
Hey, thank you so much! Hope you enjoy the VOD or the episodes coming out throughout the week!
I think you got the titles and thumbnails mixed up for the last few episodes BTW.
I miscalculated when the flax farm got built and didn't check it after rendering the episodes! XD Whoops!
Please go for the bench that is in the ruins that are close to the translocator 🙏🙏🙏
Go for the bench? I'll have to take a look--but we will need some benches eventually... ebenchually! ;)
At 14:28, can you tell me how you chiseled the limestone block one at a time instead of adding bricks one by one or using the F key to select? *I used a translator, sorry if the sentence is weird
I had already turned these into chiseled blocks, either by doing it one-by-one, or by combining the chiseled blocks in my crafting grid. I usually edit out the parts where I'm adding the chiseled blocks together because it's pretty boring! XD
@@Kurazarrh Oh, Thank you! Next time I'm chiseling, it'll be easier!
I think i watched wrong video or a glitch where its named wrong.. what happened to the flax farm .... 😅
Haha, well... this was sort of a casualty of the recording issue I had, but I did a "measure once, cut once" instead of "measure twice, cut once" while doing screenshots for thumbnails. I thought the flax farm happened in the 1:30 - 2:25 portion of the recording and got this thumbnail before I knew for sure. XD Whoops! At least we started getting ready to build the farm in this one, even if it didn't actually happen until the first couple minutes of the next episode!
im very behind so.. im skipping episode 10 and start from here.. 👀
Haha, uh-oh! Well I hope you enjoy the videos! :)
I would love to see Ebony wood in the game
Keep watching for just a few more episodes, and you will! ;) It's already in the game, but you have to venture pretty far south to find it (if you started in a temperate area).
Dude! Its not just me?!? Hell yeah!!! So someone else has noticed that the Trader Camps seem to have different weighted values attached to different types of traders. I have 3 camps somewhat nearby and all 3 of them have 2 traders in common. Each camp has a Commodities and Building trader with the 3rd being something else but usually Furnature or Agriculture. Its like the good trader types have a lower % chance to spawn in with a camp.
Interesting, so you get Commodities and Building... I get Commodities and Survival!
Lol yeah i ignore Soybeans now too... at first I went after them like they were the best thing ever because i noticed they yielded a lot of veg per plant. I was totally looking for a fast growing high yielding crop for mass rot production... lol yeah that didnt happen, i had noticed that soybeans last for like 18 years outside of preservation methods... then i noticed their satiation and compared it to the red meat i had wandering all around my base in mass numbers all day every day... yeah soybeans are worthless! Ive ignored them since, only time i see them being useful is when red meat is extremely scarce and and only veg is accessible... yah know that time i lose my mind completely and disable Primitive Survival mod.
Yeah the soybeans aren't terribly exciting if you have ample red meat nearby. Since we're not ranching anything but chickens right now, soybeans do have their place in our farm, but there are tons of animals to hunt nearby, so I'm not making it a priority.
You know how slabs can be "crafted" again to change them from Dynamic to Vertical to Horizontal then back to Dynamic... What if the Highfert/Terrapretta Mod maker added a crafting for the soil... its natural form is "High Fertility Soil (smokey) and then you can dig it up and "craft" it into a H.F.S (non-smokey) version. That would be fantastic!
That would be a nice option, yeah. Or just reduce the smokiness by like 75%!
@Kurazarrh Did you know you could BOUNCE on your bed in VS? I just found that out by accident!
I learned that early on, even the straw bed gives you some bounce. I figured this would be a thing since Vintage Story did after all begin as a Minecraft modpack and in Minecraft beds are bouncy and VS is more realistic but a lot of beds are bouncy in real life too so why not in Vintage Story? I jumped up and bounce bounce bounce, I laughed and went about my day.
I did know that! XD It's a neat little detail... though I somehow doubt straw beds are particularly bouncy!
The little houses at the top of the walls usually contain traders. I laddered up to them, completely avoiding the drifters and locusts. Bring an empty chest because they have some really good loot. The big one I found had 5 traders in different locations. I took over one of the trader’s room, made him cranky but he tolerated me.
I was wondering why I heard a trader voice when I went back to get a screenshot! TIL!
That ruin looks amazing
It does! The jumpscares are equally as amazing! ;)
Thanks
Wait, why are you using the hoe on the grown wild flax?
You get extra drops on harvest.
So the game is silly in some respects. One such respect is how Crops drops are calculated. "Wild crops" on natural non-tilled ground yield a lower amount of both their grain/veg and seeds. "Cultivated Crops" on tilled farmland yield higher drops than their "wild" versions. The real silly part now comes into play... the ground below "wild" crops can be tilled without the crop breaking but the game then changes the classification of the crop from "wild" to "cultivated" thus, for the flax he was hunting, gives more grain, flax fibers and seeds than it usually would.
;) You get more drops. Check out the Shorts category on the channel; I did a little highlight about it.
I'm just waiting for 1.20 to start playing again... I hope they market the crap out of mounts and sailing to get some more players to this masterpiece of a game
Tyron doesn't seem very interested in growing the Vintage Story player base any faster than it currently is. Maybe that will change eventually, but... who knows?
I'm partial to long formats as I can sew a costume whislt watching, BUT, short episodes are handy when I'm watching with my 4yr old grandaughter ( who really can't focus for more than 30 mins) CONGRATULATIONS on hitting 10k
:D Thank you so much! We're getting close to hitting 11k now! I'm glad you're finding a format that works for you and your granddaughter! Thanks for watching and dropping a comment!
Why, why, WHY would you not do lunch with Lucy?! It would have decreased your terror SO MUCH! XD
Lol! I can't keep all of the different interactions this game has in my head all the time. I mostly just click buttons and hope I get the outcome I want! XD
The protective suit could be an interesting end game item, made with jonas parts and giving some temporal resistance or as an "invisibility cloak" for drifters.
Such a great idea, and maybe next to cupronickel and jonas parts it would have titanium plates for protection. Whenever i see it in the ruin, i always imagine as somekind of armored hazard suit, and it would be so cool to wear 😅
@leventevig7457 I've mostly seen them near a group of broken translocators, like it was ready for going through, half-life hazmat suit style.
Or very clumsy plate armor! ;)
The stars must be aligned or something because I just got my hands on iron for the first time, and not only are you starting it in this series, but I also happen to be hitting the episodes from series 1 where you started iron in the south. So I’m getting the tutorial twice over. lol
Hah, that's perfect timing for sure!
in real life if you electrify the soil the fruit will become bigger.
Lol yeah, those Better Ruins ruins are amazing! That one obliterated castle with the meteor yielded more than just a crapton of meteoric iron... i found a Black Bronze Helve Hammer, i have ZERO use for it as at the moment i have a Tin Bronze and an Iron Helve Hammer, both setup in tandem next to eachother both with an anvil. I also still have my Tin Broze Anvil so for the lols i have under the Iron Helve Hammer where as the Iron Anvil is under the Tin Bronze Helve Hammer. I do wish there were more things a Helve Hammer could do. Imagine if we had Helve Hammer Dies that could be attached to the anvil. Then when smashing an ingot with specific dies would yield different items that are also a pain to smith by hand. Kind of like Molds for pourable crucible metals but for Iron and Steel as well as the pourable if they are already in Ingot form. In real life blacksmiths use dies on their power hammers to restrict how far down the ram can smash towards the anvil base. This helps speed up and increase accuracy when crafting multiple things in succession. There are also dies for things like Fulers, the indented rounded grove down a sword and some other bladed weapons/tools. Now lets take that and add it to VS in a way that makes sense game wise. Maybe with a set of Fuler Dies the helve hammer can no longer craft ingots or plates but now has the option to make Knives, Falks, Short Swords (if metal permits), and any other bladed tool that has fulers.
You can put up to 4 helve hammers around a single anvil, so that black bronze one could find a job in your forge! ;)
Those Cows are totally breedable, i dont think they become domesticated but they do yield a TON of Meat, Hide and Bones... and they can be fed grass. So they are super easy to take care of and yield far more than most other animals. Honestly though, i havent bothered with the cows yet in my world as i dont have that mod lol but i plan on getting it soon for my next world. Anywho the point im getting at is, ive actually found that the naturally spawning Gazelles in the nearby desert yield a CRAP TON of meat. Like 12-16 per including the babies! After a 30min hunting session i walked away with 9 and a half stacks of meat. My cellar is now STUFFED FULL of preprepared meat/veg and meat/fruit meals. Im stocked for like nearly a year and a half lol and all from ONE hunting trip. I dont know why im even bothering with raising pigs when all those gazelle are just over the ridge...
Yeah, the sheer abundance of meat on the hoof is why I'm not bothering with breeding/raising/domesticating any sheep/pigs/goats/cows. I've got soybeans and peanuts for protein, and hyenas for hides and fat!
